Our Membership
Why Church Membership?
For Christians, membership in local churches is clearly expected in the New Testament. For example, Paul directed the church in Corinth to deal with a sinning brother “when you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus” (1 Corinthians 5:4, ESV). Most of the letters of the New Testament were directed to local churches in specific cities, i.e., in Ephesus, Corinth, Thessalonica, and Philippi, etc.
It is through active, meaningful membership that believers can fulfill the “one another’s” of the New Testament. For example, Paul directed the church in Colosse to “put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive”(Colossians 3:12-13, ESV).
It is for our spiritual well-being and Christian maturity that we have covenanted together as a church here in downtown Seattle.
How To Become A Member?
Membership at City Center Baptist Church is based upon one’s testimony of repentance and faith in Christ Jesus as Lord, marked by a subsequent public baptism by immersion.
Prospective members attend four classes to review our Church Covenant, Statement of Beliefs, Constitution & Bylaws, and history. An elder will interview each prospective member before presentation to the church for final approval.
